29th SEA GAMES IN KUALA LUMPUR

After 16 long years, the SEA Games is back in Malaysia and the nation is in high spirits! The 29th SEA Games, previously known as SEAP (South East Asian Peninsular) Games, is branded as Kuala Lumpur 2017 (KL 2017) and will be the sixth time Malaysia has played host to the prestigious sporting event after last hosting the event in 2001.The figurine features the KL2017 Games mascot Rimau, inspired by the graceful and powerful Malayan Tiger.

The ceremony will begin with a flag parade of the 11 participating countries, followed by a parade of contingents and athletes as well as the raising of the SEA Games Federation and the KL2017 flags.Watch the best moments from the recent Kuala Lumpur 2017 Opening Ceremony!

The Kuala Lumpur SEA Games medal are made of pewter and composite wood. The design of the medal have a clean yet classical touch. Weighing about 140 grams each, the gold and bronze medals are coated with gold and copper respectively. Medals made by KL Southeast Asian Games's Official Medal Partner, Royal Selangor. In term of design and materials, the KL SEA Games medal are chosen to reflect the characteristics of Malaysia.

In August, the Torch Run will be completing the last few legs of its journey by going through Selangor from 31 July until 5 August, and Putrajaya from 6 to 12 August, later on ending in the host city, Kuala Lumpur.
 
OBJECTIVES OF THE RISING TOGETHER - BATON RUN
  • To promote the Kuala Lumpur 2017 (29th SEA Games and 9th ASEAN Para Games) among the participating Southeast Asia countries;
  • To create awareness about Kuala Lumpur 2017 among the citizens of Southeast Asia;
  • To spark excitement and celebration leading up to the SEA Games and the ASEAN Para Games;
  • To promote a healthy lifestyle and sporting culture in the region; and
  • To reflect the spirit of togetherness and unity among the people of the Southeast Asia through sports.

Congratulations to Malaysia for hosting what has been by far, the best and most successful SEA Games opening ceremony. I'm extremely proud of my country, Malaysia
